How Our Externship Process Works

At Clinical Skills Institute, we believe every student should have the opportunity to gain real-world experience in a healthcare setting — which is why we provide full support for externship placement after certification.

Here’s how it works:

🔹 Step 1: Complete the Program & Pass Your NHA Exam

Once you finish the online coursework and pass your NHA CCMA certification exam, you're eligible to begin the externship process.

🔹 Step 2: Receive a Customized List of Clinics

Your dedicated externship coordinator will send you a personalized list of clinics and urgent cares hiring in your ZIP code or surrounding area — tailored to your interest (e.g., pediatrics, urgent care, family medicine).

🔹 Step 3: Access Your Externship Toolkit

We’ll equip you with everything you need to make outreach easy and professional:

  • A recommendation letter

  • A PDF of your completed program syllabus

  • A template script for calling or emailing clinics confidently

🔹 Step 4: Reach Out to Clinics (With Our Support)

Using the resources provided, you’ll begin contacting clinics directly. Once a clinic shows interest:

  • Share your documents

  • Connect the clinic manager with your CSI externship coordinator

You are never alone — our team is available to support and coach you throughout the process.

🔹 Step 5: CSI Finalizes the Agreement

CSI works directly with the clinic to:

  • Sign an externship agreement

  • Handle all legal, insurance, and documentation requirements

  • Schedule your official externship start date

🔹 Step 6: Complete Your Clinical Externship

Most externships range from 2 to 4 weeks or about 80 to 160 hours. We focus on placing students in high-demand environments like:

  • Urgent care centers

  • Family medicine clinics

  • Pediatric offices

These settings often experience MA shortages — making it more likely that externships lead to job offers.

🔹 Step 7: Get Hired & Keep Growing

After completing your externship, many students are offered part-time or full-time Medical Assistant roles. We also support your job search with:

  • Resume review and optimization

  • Job interview prep

  • Access to our private job board

  • Ongoing career coaching

What Makes Our Externship Model Unique?

Clinical Skills Institute focuses on externship-to-hire placement. We strategically reach out to clinics that:

  • Are actively hiring

  • Need help immediately

  • Are open to converting externships into employment

You don’t just check a box — you gain real experience and a clear path to employment.

Ready to take the next step toward a hands-on healthcare career?

We’re here to help you learn, certify, and get hired.
