How Long Does It Take to Complete the Medical Assistant Program?
The Clinical Skills Institute Medical Assistant program is designed to accommodate different schedules and learning goals.

NHA CCMA Certification and Exam Preparation
Clinical Skills Institute is an approved training partner of the National Healthcareer Association.
The program prepares eligible students for the NHA Certified Clinical Medical Assistant examination. The first eligible exam fee and six NHA practice exams are included.
After meeting applicable requirements, students can pursue the NHA CCMA examination through an available NHA testing option, including authorized in-person testing or remote proctoring when permitted.
Important: Clinical Skills Institute provides training and examination preparation. The NHA awards the CCMA credential to candidates who satisfy its eligibility requirements and pass the examination. NHA training-partner approval is not the same as institutional accreditation.
Does the Medical Assistant Program Include an Externship?
Clinical Skills Institute offers an optional Medical Assistant externship pathway for eligible graduates seeking supervised clinical experience.
After completing the required training and passing the NHA CCMA examination, eligible students can begin the externship coordination process.
Support may include résumé preparation, clinic identification, a recommendation letter, coordination with a participating site, and applicable affiliation-agreement and liability-insurance arrangements.
Externships commonly take place in outpatient healthcare settings such as primary care, urgent care, internal medicine, and specialty practices.
A typical experience may involve approximately 40–80 hours, although requirements vary by clinical site and state. Certain Washington placements may require a longer pathway.
Externship placement is subject to published eligibility conditions, clinical-site acceptance, availability, location, schedule compatibility, and onboarding requirements. A specific clinic, travel distance, shift, start date, or job offer is not guaranteed.
